Therapy for anxiety and depression in New York
Anxiety and depression rarely show up on their own. They arrive alongside a demanding job, a relationship that's changing, a body that feels different, or a future that feels unclear. You might be functioning well on the outside and running on empty underneath. Or just getting through the day might feel like a lot.
Together, we'll look at what's driving the worry or low mood and build practical ways to respond, using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), so it takes up less room in your life.
What it can look like
Anxiety can look like constant worry, a racing mind at night, or a body that never quite settles. It can also sound like a harsh inner critic: the running commentary that second-guesses you and pulls you off course from what you set out to do. Depression can look like low mood, but also like numbness, irritability, or losing interest in things that used to matter. Often the two show up together, and often they arrive during a change: a new job, a move, a loss, or a body that isn't working the way it used to.
How we work together
We'll start by understanding what's happening and what you've already tried. With ACT, we work on making room for difficult thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them, noticing the stories that keep you stuck, and getting clear on what matters to you, so more of your energy can go there. I also encourage you to experiment with breathwork and movement to help settle your body, and we can bring in writing if it appeals to you.
Sleep, hormones, and thyroid health can affect mood too. When it's relevant, I may suggest checking in with your doctor, so nothing physical gets missed.
