Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book a session?
You can book a free 15-minute consultation through my Headway profile, or call or text me at (347) 673-1238. Please don't include personal health details in a text.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I accept insurance through Headway, including Aetna, Anthem, Carelon, Cigna, and Curative. Headway checks your coverage and shows your expected cost before you book. Self-pay sessions are $180, and a limited number of sliding-scale spots are available.
Do you offer online therapy (telehealth) in New York?
Yes. All sessions take place over secure video, so therapy is fully virtual. I'm based in New York City and work with adults who live anywhere in New York State, from Manhattan and Brooklyn to Westchester, Long Island, and upstate.
Do you work with postpartum depression and anxiety?
Yes. Maternal mental health is a central part of my practice. I work with people during pregnancy and after birth, including postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and the identity shifts of new motherhood.
Do you work with illness, caregiving, and grief?
Yes. I work with people living with chronic or serious illness, with those caring for a partner, parent, or other loved one, and with people who are grieving, including the grief that can begin while someone is still here.
What is your approach to therapy?
My style is eclectic, and my primary approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an evidence-based treatment for anxiety and depression. I also bring in breathwork and movement, and offer therapeutic writing and journaling for clients who want it. Sessions are collaborative and direct, and I pay attention to the body as part of mental health.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are 55 minutes. Most clients meet weekly, and some move to every other week once things feel steadier.
Is there a cancellation policy?
Your session time is held for you. I ask for 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel. Cancellations made after that window, and no-shows, are charged the full session fee.
What are your credentials?
I'm Maya Adler, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State. I received my Master of Social Work from New York University and my Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College. I hold a Designation in Palliative Care from the Center to Advance Palliative Care and am completing a certificate in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. Before private practice, I worked in transplant, intensive care, and acute rehabilitation at Mount Sinai Hospital. During graduate school, I interned at the Hospital for Special Surgery and with Prison Writes, where I facilitated therapeutic writing workshops.
